Manufacturing Process

Bamboo products are crafted with meticulous care, utilizing sustainably sourced bamboo—a fast-growing and renewable material. Selected for its exceptional quality, strength, and flexibility, bamboo guarantees the creation of durable and long-lasting cushion covers. The manufacturing process begins with harvesting mature bamboo stalks from bamboo forests. These stalks are then carefully split into thin strips, processed to eliminate impurities, and enhance flexibility.
Additionally, after cutting the bamboo, it undergoes a unique process to further enhance its properties. The bamboo is submerged in a pond followed by smoking in a dedicated smoking chamber. This process adds depth and durability to the bamboo, ensuring that each cushion is resilient and robust.

EHMON KHONGWIR

In the village of Tangmang, amidst the rolling hills of Meghalaya, there resides an artisan whose hands weave magic into every creation. Ehmon Khongwir, a master artisan whose journey into the world of handicrafts began with a simple cane mat, locally known as Shylliah.
As a young girl of twelve or thirteen, Ehmon found himself under the patient tutelage of her grandmother, who imparted to her the age-old art of crafting cane mats. With each meticulous step, from selecting the finest cane to weaving intricate patterns, she honed her skills and nurtured a passion that would shape her future.
Driven by a desire to explore further, she ventured into crafting baskets—utilitarian vessels that found purpose in storing vegetables and fruits and even freshly caught fish. Her creations soon caught the eye of the villagers, who marvelled at the craftsmanship and sought to acquire her products. It was this recognition and appreciation that fuelled her dedication to her craft, igniting a fire within her to continue creating.
In the year 2002, she started her first formal training in basket weaving, a seven-day immersion into the intricacies of her art. This initial experience laid the foundation for numerous other training sessions that followed, each offering her new techniques and insights to enhance her craft.
With each passing day and year, she found herself growing more passionate and driven, fuelled by a relentless desire to earn a livelihood through her artistry. In 2018, opportunity knocked on her door once again, this time in the form of a teaching role. Empowered by her expertise and eager to share her knowledge, she became a teacher and trainer, imparting her skills to others in her village and beyond. With each student she mentored, she found herself not only enriching their lives but also deepening her own understanding of her craft.
Today, as she reflects on her journey, she attributes her success to a combination of hard work and divine guidance. Her story serves as an inspiration to aspiring artisans everywhere, a reminder that with determination and devotion, even the humblest of beginnings can lead to achievements.
