The opening of the second edition of 'Her Art' event saw three artists and one musician (Careen Langstieh, Rida Gatphoh, Balaiamon Kharngapkynta, and Maya Lyngdoh Mawlong) come together to tell a unique and profound story, from both their perspectives and experiences but also a voice that represents their culture, traditions, and values.
A wide variety of guests added to the enriching evening of learning, sharing, and taking a slice of goodness that Meghalaya offers.
Careen Langstieh and Rida Gatphoh collaborate on an installation that speaks of birth, family, birth rituals, safeguarding, caretaking, and motherhood, of the Khasi origin story - these all come together in a synchronized expression to celebrate life and the Khasi culture. Balaiamon Kharngapkynta shared her practice in printmaking, its connection to her life of being the youngest daughter, the subjects that speak of her relations, and that of women in Meghalaya. And through the medium of song and story, Maya Lyngdoh Mawlong shares her journey in music and melodies that celebrate her place and personhood.
